Our Core Values

Not all care homes are the same. We focus on residents’ wellbeing and that starts with peace of mind and an exceptional care and nursing team.

  • All-Inclusive Living: We talk about it a lot and that’s because it matters a great deal to our residents and their families. They know they can plan ahead, knowing there won’t be any surprises. To be able to invite friends and family over for celebrations, or pop out in the Mercedes at no extra cost really is the icing on the cake. Read more about our fantastic all-inclusive service here.
  • Motivated Team of Caring People: We look after our staff very well, not only because the work they do is incredibly important to our residents and wider society, but because they look after our residents. The more united the family of carers, the lower the turnover of team members and reliance on agency staff. All of this combines to produce a very happy home indeed.

Meet the people at Cumnor Hill House

Our general manager, Sherrie Hume and her amazing team have created an inspiring atmosphere within this luxury care home, delivering exceptional care in a community-focused environment. Our residents are guaranteed an enriching and stimulating experience, whatever the weather.

Sherrie Hume

General Manager

I am a Registered Nurse and have over 30 years’ experience in the Health and Social Care Sector. I began working in care homes in 1992 as a staff nurse and have since held various positions. During this time, I gained the Registered Managers Award qualification. I spent five years working as an Area Manager for a provider which ran five care homes in Oxfordshire. In 2006, I commissioned a new 64 bed dementia specialist home, something I achieved while at the same time successfully studying for a Diploma in dementia care.

My wealth of experience within the care industry, and passion for excellence, allows me to create an environment which promotes each individual’s wellbeing.

Natasha Stone

Deputy Manager

My name is Natasha Stone, and I’m very excited to be joining the team here at Cumnor Hill House as the Deputy Manager. I have worked with Berkley Care group now for 4 years, having been the Senior Lead on the floor where our residents with dementia live at one of our sister homes. I am passionate about ensuring the residents within our care receive the best care possible in the later years of their lives. And I am looking forward to working alongside Sherrie, our Home Manager, to provide the best possible care to your loved ones. I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Roxana

Home Administrator

I am the Home Administrator at Cumnor Hill House. I have worked in health and social care for over 15 years. I love the ethos the Berkley Care Group bring in ensuring residents live as independently as they wish while having excellent care and luxury living.

There is a very good management team here and we work closely alongside each other to ensure that the company values are maintained.

My role ranges from assisting with enquiries, communicating with relatives and the staff team, ensuring the team are well informed and the home’s administration is effectively maintained whilst supporting all departments.

In my spare time I enjoy a variety of activities such as lovely walks in the countryside, cooking, gardening, watching sports and spending quality time with my family and friends.

Andy

Head Chef

Hi, my name is Andy Lawrence. I started working as the Head Chef at Cumnor Hill House since opening in March of 2016. I have over 28 years of experience as a chef, working in most sectors of catering from hotels, private dining, education and even working abroad. I gained a great deal of knowledge of nutrition working at a prestigious private school as an executive chef which has been invaluable as we have freedoms to cook a wide and varied menu.

I love working at Cumnor Hill House and the personal resident care within the food side of things I find very rewarding. Alongside catering for our residents I have gained an invaluable insight into care on a general level to which I also find very rewarding.

Lee

Head of Bar Bistro

I started working at Cumnor Hill House in 2017 as a Care Assistant and worked my way up to trainee senior before being offered the role of Hospitality Manager. Having worked in hospitality for over 15 years in England and Spain, I have accumulated many skills that ensure we are delivering excellent customer service to our residents.

Lee

Maintenance Manager

I am Lee the Maintenance Manager at Cumnor Hill House in Oxford. I really enjoy working in our beautiful, well-kept home and maintaining the home is a pleasure!

Our residents always make me smile, I’m lucky to have the opportunity to take our residents out on trips and appointments. It’s great to be in a job that I look forward to when traveling to work each day, as my work colleagues and residents are great company whilst doing my job.

Embracing technology for better care

We are always looking to evolve the way in which we deliver great quality care, but not just for the sake of it. It has to provide tangible benefits and not take away from the human element of what we do. Here are some of the ways we are embracing the digital world to help our care home.

Connecting residents with their families

From group-wide Zoom quiz, to virtual reality game time, at Cumnor Hill House we’re always looking for new ways to communicate and bring our residents closer together and to their friends and families. Each floor at the home has iPads used for FaceTime and WhatsApp and Skype to keep in touch.

Enabling physical distancing

As we all know, 2020 brought about unprecedented social restrictions. We have addressed this with our state-of-the-art care pod – a garden room which enables residents to meet and see their families in person while remaining safe.

Providing better care through technology

From electronic care planning and acoustic monitoring, to high speed internet connection and on demand TV, our care home always moves with the times if it’s for the benefit of our residents.

Engaging with our local community

We are lucky to live in one of the country’s most historic and beautiful cities, with plenty to see and do. Whether it’s joining our local cricket club just up the road or visiting a theatre or the local church, being part of the Cumnor Hill community is important to us.

We are always looking at ways for residents of Cumnor Hill House to engage with the local community, and our events and activities schedule reflects this. We have held our own Olympic games, we have visited historic sites around the city and beyond, and we regularly have exemplary musicians, artists and performers into the home and gardens to entertain us. You can follow our activities best by liking our Facebook page or subscribing to our newsletter.
