The Cotswold Wildlife Park near Burford is a fantastic family-owned attraction that has been running since 1970. It offers a great day out for people of all ages, so we thought we’d head on over for a little mooch around with seven Cumnor Hill House residents! But we had also an ulterior motive…

Anne Tallet, who lives here at Cumnor Hill House, actually used to live on the very site where the Cotswold Wildlife Park is! And until our recent trip there, she had never been back – but had always wanted to.

In 1923, Colonel Heyworth-Savage bought the estate, which his grandson, John Heyworth, then inherited in 1949. It wasn’t until 20 years later that he decided to create a wildlife park, and the Cotswold Wildlife Park then opened to the public in 1970 – it’s now run by John’s son, Reggie.

After decades away from her former home, here’s what Anne had to say about the trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park: “It is so wonderful to finally be here. So many of my friends have said they’ve been here as if it were nothing, some even tell me they’ve been twice or more! I’ve wanted to come for so long and now I’ve finally got to come.”

A member of the Cumnor Hill House team for the trip was Chris, who’s one of our Care Assistants. Chris used to work at the Cotswold Wildlife Park, both on the land and with the reptiles, so we had our own personal guide to show us around! Chris said: “I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to show our residents around my former workplace. The residents really enjoyed looking at all the animals and plants in this huge place.”

The trip was organised by our Events Manager, Alan, and he went along to the park too. About the trip, he said: “The thing I love most about Cumnor Hill House is how we strive to allow our residents to, not just have a full day with lots of things to do, but to also achieve their aspirations. Anne has achieved a long-held dream to one day visit the Cotswold Wildlife Park, a place that she and her family have deep and meaningful connections to, and it makes my day to know that we have played our part in ensuring that Anne was able to have a wonderful day.”

If you like the sound of our trips out and about, why not get in touch with the team today to find out more about coming to live here in our lovely home? We’d love to show you around.
